What if I see my perpetrator?

There is a possibility that during this process you will see your perpetrator. This can be a difficult experience. If you have obtained a PFA/PFH there will be certain conditions regarding your perpetrators actions. If there is a protection order in place and the perpetrator is, in any way, in violation of that order CALL LAW ENFORCEMENT IMMEDIATELY.

If you see your perpetrator in public and he/she is not in violation of the protection order or there is not an order here are some suggestions:

• Call 1-800-871-7741 and get some support.
• Leave the area and come back at a later time.
• Ignore him/her.
• Wait until you know that he/she has left the area and continue with your business.
• Stay where you know that you are safe.
• If at any time you feel threatened or unsafe because of his/her actions CALL LAW ENFORCEMENT IMMEDIATELY.

Again, this can be a difficult experience and it is normal to feel any number of things including, but not limited to:
• Fear
• Anxiety
• Nausea
• Shaky
• Paralyzed
• Unsure about your decisions.

Remember ALL of these feelings are normal and OK. Please don’t hesitate to call the support line and get the support that you need.
