Support Line Advocate FAQ’s

Q. Will I be answering phones out of a call center?

A.      No, you will be answering from your home phone or cell phone.  SAC&SC uses an answering service to receive our initial calls.  The call center takes down the information needed for you to be able to return the call.  They will contact you at the numbers that you supply as your contact numbers.

Q. How often will I be on call for the Support Line?

A.  As a volunteer advocate you are asked to take as many shifts as you are able to take.      If you are a Per Diem Advocate it is required that you take an average of 8-10 shifts a month if available.

Q. How many calls will I get during a shift?

A.  There is no definitive answer for this.  Some shifts you may receive several calls while others you may not receive any.

Q. What if something comes up during a shift and I need to leave suddenly?

A.  SAC&SC has 2 people on call at all times (first call & back-up).  If you need to leave your shift suddenly you can contact the back-up person and notify them of the change.  This is a topic that will be addressed in the training.

Q.  What if I’m on a call and another call comes in.  Will the answering service try to contact me again?

A.  The answering service follows a protocol set up by SAC&SC.  If they are unable to contact you they will call the back-up advocate to return the call.

Q.  What if I receive a call that I’m not feeling comfortable with or I know the individual personally that is calling for support?

A.  If you have questions, feel uncomfortable with a call, or you know the person calling for support,  you can always call the back-up advocate that is scheduled with you.  You will receive a schedule of who is on call and how to contact them every month.

If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
